From She Kills Monsters to Kill Bill, and Highlander to Henry IV, the two-handed sword holds a central place in dramatic and popular imagination. This class covers the basic skills needed to perform dynamic, safe, and effective sword fights for the stage.   Students will explore functional movement, physical storytelling, as well as how to connect stage combat techniques to text, character, and audience.

Casey Kaleba has staged fights for more than five hundred opera and theatre productions including Round House Theatre, Washington National Opera, Glimmerglass Festival, Signature Theatre, Guthrie Theatre, Wolf Trap Opera, Spoleto Festival, Rorschach Theatre, and Northern Stage.  A Certified Teacher and Fight Director with the Society of American Fight Directors, he has arranged fights for two thirds of the Folio and a score of Scottish Plays.  Casey worked as an audition choreographer for Marvel Universe Live, smashed things on the YouTube show Men At Arms: Reforged, and he holds a doctorate in Theatre History.  www.toothandclawcombat.com
